Why use a custom software service?

Pre Enrolment is unique in delivering online induction systems to construction contractors through a custom software service. Unlike an off-the-shelf product, a custom software service provides contractors with a system that is made to meet all of their needs and requirements, present and future.
Products are generic and force contractors to adapt their processes to a formulaic solution; this might give them some of what they need, but will usually fall short in other areas and provide no extensibility in the long term. Pre Enrolment solves these problems by providing contractors with a custom software service.

Why does a custom software service work best?

The custom software service of Pre Enrolment delivers bespoke systems for construction contractors. The core of a system delivered through this service is simple to use and easy to understand. The power of each system is that it is highly extensible; new functionality can be added, digitalising more processes in the future.

The Pre Enrolment service takes an iterative approach, focusing on changing often, not changing big.

This approach ensures longevity by delivering a system that is not only usable by a contractor’s employees and site teams, but a system that they want to use.

Introducing new functionality sequentially presents everyone with a manageable amount of change at any one time. It also creates opportunities to incorporate feedback, keeping employees and site teams involved and providing the best solution.
As part of the Pre Enrolment service, a dedicated team is provided to a construction contractor, capable of proactively responding to requests for changes. Because there is a dedicated team, most changes can be processed and actioned on the same day. Adding or amending new form fields, for example, can be implemented within hours, as part of the service, at no extra charge or cost.

The incremental steps taken during the Pre Enrolment service reduce risk and help with change management.

Improvements and additions to a system will be identified through regular discussion and will reflect a contractor’s priorities.

Each incremental step will build on or complement previous functionality, evolving a custom Pre Enrolment system to provide increasing value and benefit to the contractor, their people and supply chain.
The Pre Enrolment service delivers a custom system that grows with a construction contractor, digitalising processes. Through continued development, a system can offer more than just online inductions; it can evolve into a full contractor management system.

Incorporating feedback as part of the Pre Enrolment service ensures that relevant, useful functionality is developed.

Feedback provides the best perspective for ensuring that relevant, useful functionality is developed. Listening to feedback also makes everyone feel involved, keeping them engaged. This will help produce the best possible solution that benefits a contractor.

New ideas from employees can be incorporated into a Pre Enrolment system, both at the initial design stage and after its launch. This continual iteration and organic development will not only create a system that works for everyone, but a system that everyone wants to use.
Each system is ‘user-centred’ by design; all functionality will evolve organically from operatives (construction workers), employees and site teams and their accounts. This approach will allow the system to be flexible and extensible. Operatives can work across all sites without their information being duplicated. An operative’s information is all saved in one, centralised location: their account.

How is a Pre Enrolment system delivered?

Every custom Pre Enrolment online induction system is implemented in four steps.
Bourne Phone Observ 1
  • A construction contractor’s needs and requirements for the design of the layout, processes, form fields and tiered access for administrators, will be discussed and agreed through consultations and workshops. All key stakeholders will be involved from this first Design stage.
  • Requirements for induction content will be reviewed. Induction video content can also be produced as part of the Pre Enrolment service. Find out more
  • The system will be built to the specification outlined during the Design stage. The Build stage will include thorough testing and refinement, prior to the initial Launch.
  • APIs will be incorporated to automatically verify the validity of competency cards and accreditations. The developer of Pre Enrolment, Colonel Duck, is a CSCS IT Partner. This means that every system can verify the validity of all skills cards affiliated with the CSCS card scheme.
  • Help resources and ‘How-to’ guides will be produced for the Launch. These can be made available online and sent out directly to suppliers (subcontractors) and administrators.
  • An email Helpdesk will be set up to answer queries directly from suppliers and administrators. Demonstrations of a Pre Enrolment system can also be provided to a construction contractor’s employees.
  • A construction contractor will be provided with a fully serviced and managed system through the Pre Enrolment service. The system will be maintained and upgraded for the duration of the service. This will ensure that the system remains available 24/7, on any Internet-enabled device that is reasonably up to date.
  • Feedback will be gathered on a regular basis. As and when new requirements are identified, the system can be developed and evolved. If more data needs to be captured, or a new custom report needs to be created, the additional fields or facility for this will be incorporated. The system delivered through the Pre Enrolment service can be evolved to digitalise practically any site process.

How much does an online induction system cost?

Making online induction systems bespoke does not make them expensive.

The cost for the Pre Enrolment service to deliver an online induction system is charged as a fixed monthly service fee. There are no upfront development costs and the service fee includes ongoing management and development. As each Pre Enrolment system is bespoke, it can be tailored to meet specific budgets.

The cost of an online induction system is based on the starting specification, the resourcing and the usage.

The Starting Specification will be based on a construction contractor’s needs and requirements; it will include all of the functionality necessary to digitalise the required health and safety processes.
Resourcing comprises the components of the Pre Enrolment service that are delivered on an ongoing basis (e.g. managing the system, maintenance and updates, hosting and support).
Usage of a Pre Enrolment system, by operatives completing the onboarding and induction process and administrators reviewing the database, will increase the demand on some of the aspects of Resourcing.
